THE FIELD LIBRARY

THE WORK STANDS ON OLDER SHOULDERS

I built the Hero Economy in the field and checked it against the library. These are the texts and the living precedents the framework answers to. Each entry carries a note on what it holds.

The source text and the warning inside it. Odysseus comes home alone because his ship ran on hoarded information and one man's glory, and the crew paid the price. The Hero Economy studies that voyage to build its inversion: a ship the whole crew brings home.

Campbell traced one arc through every mythology on earth: departure, trial, transformation, and the return that carries the gift outward. The Hero Economy treats that arc as an organizational design instead of a story shape.

Coelho reached me after Homer did, but at a time when my own identity was solidifying. He named the Personal Legend: the journey a person owes their own life. The Hero Economy carries his premise into the organization, and the mechanics follow from it. A crew exists to fund each member's legend, and every legend returns carrying something for the crew.

Mauss studied economies where the exchange builds the bond instead of closing it. He answered the transactional objection a century before anyone raised it against this work: paying people in recognition deepens the relationship rather than cheapening it.

Zaltman put a number on how much of human decision runs beneath awareness, and the figure is nearly all of it. The Two Currencies work because they pay the part of a person that never reads the offer letter.

Merton named the pattern where recognition flows to the already recognized and the uncredited stay unread. An undesigned belonging economy runs his experiment daily, and it gets his result.

When a Mondragón cooperative grows past a human scale, it spawns a new one instead of swelling. Seventy years of receipts for the fractal over the empire.

Autonomous houses share one written covenant and have replicated for fifteen hundred years without a headquarters. The oldest running proof that a written Rule outlasts any founder.

Apprentice, journeyman, master. Craft passes between people as standing rather than salary, and the Guild layer of this architecture descends from it directly.
